How to practise algebra effectively

  • Write every line. Most errors are dropped signs, and they’re easy to spot when each step is on paper.
  • Try before revealing. Use the hint first. Retrieval practice, recalling a method rather than re-reading it, is one of the best-supported study techniques in cognitive science.
  • Mix topics. Switching between problem types (interleaving) helps you learn to recognise which method a problem needs.
  • Check by substituting. Plug your answer back in. If both sides match, you’re right, no answer key needed.

Frequently asked questions

Are these algebra practice problems with answers?
Yes. Every problem is checked instantly, and you can reveal a full step-by-step solution from the same solver used on the rest of the site.
How are the problems made?
They are generated in your browser by building each equation backwards from a random whole-number answer, so there is always a clean solution and you’ll never run out.
How should I enter answers?
Type a number, fraction (3/4) or decimal. For quadratics enter both roots separated by a comma. For systems enter x and y. For inequalities pick the sign and type the boundary number.
Is my score saved?
Your streak and totals are stored only in this browser (localStorage). Nothing is sent anywhere, and you can reset it any time.
